It’s that time of the year!. A time for renewed vigor, renewed purpose and a renewed drive. READY TO GO! “But hold on a minute ... this seems familiar... I’ve been here before”
The close of one calendar year brings the start of another, often bringing a feeling of newness. “New year, new you” and a host of other brilliant catch-phrases and hashtags emerge and all of a sudden we are all firmly on the bandwagon of newness. We envision what this new “you” will look like and some of the glamorous things that newness will cause or attract. For this very reason the gym is like a WWE Royal Rumble match in January.
I am for all movement towards efficient movement. However I do believe that the only thing better than efficient movement is sustainable efficient movement. So before we decide to get into the gym just for the sake of the change of a calendar date we should consider a few things. What is my goal? (TIP: Document a clear and precise goal)Is it time-bound? (TIP: Set a time frame in which you want to achieve your goal)Is my goal attainable and realistic? Is my goal measurable? What must I do to achieve this?Stay accountable (TIP: tell someone else - a positive person in your life - your goal)
Precise? (check), time-bound? (check), realistic? (check), measurable? (check), how? (check), accountability? (check). Place that goal or reminders where ever you will see it/ them daily (eg. the fridge) and you’ll be off to a solid start towards sustainable movement and a new you.
